Reproductive and Sexual Function in Male after Climacteric

Abstract
A primary defect in the reproductive hormonal axis with aging occurs at a gonadal level as a result of decreased numbers of Leydig cells and degenerative seminiferous tubule changes. These changes at a testicular level result in elevations of circulating gonadotropins, but there is evidence of decreased pituitary gonadotropin secretory responses at least to exogenous LHRH. The origins of the apparent reductions in pituitary responsiveness are not clear at present and deserve further investigation.
The reproductive capacity with the retention of abundant sperms can persist in the majority of elderly men, although clear evidence of degenerative changes of germinal tubules can be identified in most aging men.
Under the proper physical and emotional conditions the sexual function is not lost in the later years, but simply slows down gradually, along with other physical capacties. And there is no cutt-off point for sexual desire, response, or ability.
